Abstract

This paper explores the importance of achieving gender parity in arms control and disarmament efforts from the perspective of young African women. It discusses the definition and importance of gender parity, women's inclusion in arms control and disarmament, and the benefits of gender parity. The paper also highlights the representation and participation of young women in arms control and disarmament, including their voices, experiences, and contributions to peace and security. However, the paper also acknowledges the challenges faced by women in participating in arms control initiatives, such as genderbased violence and lack of access to education and skills development. The paper concludes with policy recommendations and strategies for promoting gender parity in arms control and disarmament efforts, including concrete and binding measures at national, regional, and international levels, investment in education and mentorship programs, and strategic partnerships with local women leaders and networks. Overall, this paper emphasizes the importance of gender parity in arms control and disarmament efforts and the need for greater participation and representation of women in these initiatives.
