Abstract
This paper describes a current U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) research program whose objective is to establish the consequences of postulated terrorist attacks on spent fuel shipping casks. In one project within this program, a laboratory scale experimental investigation is being conducted to determine a bounding estimate of the radiological source term resulting from a specified shaped charge attack on a spent fuel shipping cask.
