Abstract
PNC has been carrying out the R & D program on the physical protection systems for its nuclear facilities for six years since 1977. This R & D program, on one hand, evaluates the effectiveness, reliability and tamper proof of various sensors and equipment employed by the system, while, on the other hand, collects the basic data for designing the optimum protection system taking into consideration the special features of the nuclear facilities. Accordingly, the R & D program covers a wide range of operation such as detection of various kinds of intrusions, access control, watch by means of CCTV, detection of illicit articles (including SNM) and man-to-machine interface between watchmen and physical protection system. We are now going to present just a part of the results achieved by the R & D program.
