Abstract
The next edition of the IAEA's Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material, Safety Series No.6, (SS6) is scheduled to be published in 1996. This will be the end of the current review and revision cycle for SS6. Four meetings of the revision panel will have been held during this time. The first three meetings of the revision panel for this cycle were held in 1991, 1993, and 1994, and the forth and final meeting of the revision panel is scheduled for the fall of 1995. This final meeting will be the culmination often years of effort and will result in a substantially changed SS6. Many proposed amendments have already been approved by the three previous revision panels and many issues still remain to be resolved. This paper discusses what changes have been approved to date and what issues are still left for the last revision panel to resolve. The changes that are approved during this revision cycle will effect the transport of radioactive material well into the next century, since the next scheduled revision of SS6 is not until 2006.
