Abstract
Experience using a computerised information assessment tool for international safeguards information data at the International Atomic Energy Agency is described in broad terms and with detail omitted. Agency information was explored with queries against the information database and viewers for information review. An often occurring pattern in the analyses emerged in which the information was repeatedly examined in one and then the other of two domains -- the geographical and the text. Noteworthy features of the tool were: 1) the hierarchical data structure managed with a graphical user interface; 2) the bitmap viewer to view scanned data; 3) the capacity for bitmap images, and; 4) the ability to process geographic and text information simultaneously. Acting as an information analyst using the tool to review the information database, the authors were able to gain insight into safeguards issues using IAEA safeguards information.
