Abstract
In 1994, the Board of Governors and the General Conference requested the Director General to intensljj the IAEA’s activities addressing illicit traf~cking concerns. In response, the IAEA has developed an Agency programme to support Member States in combatting the problem of illicit trafficking in nuclear material and other radioactive sources. This programme assists Member States to enhance national infrastructures for controlling these materiaik and incorporates variom activities of a number of Agency Departments into a coherent whole, co-ordinatetj by the O~ce of the Deputy Director ~eneral of Safeguar& under the overall direction of the Director General. Ibis paper concentrates on one part of this programme, the aiztabase on i[licit trafficking of nuciear material and other radioactive sources, its construction, its expected use, the information to be requested and to be disseminated
