Abstract
The VACOSS fiber-optic seal has been enhanced to provide the security needed for use in remote monitoring applications and to correct technology limitations inherent to previous revisions of the VACOSS seal. The VACOSS 5.0 is compatible with all existing seal readers and how has an operating mode that appends a cryptographic signature to its data to prove authenticity. Additional enhancements extend the party-line communication capability beyond 300 meters and allow more rapid polling. This paper details the enhancements to the VACOSS operation and describes several of the new safeguards scenarios and applications that it now addresses. Funding from the United States Support Program supports this development project.
