Abstract
In the safeguarding of nuclear facilities more efficient utilisation of resources has oriented research applications to make use of unattended process data collection systems. For large scale reprocessing and fabrication facilities much of the safeguards relevant data are taken fram tanks where inventory and batch flows are monitored. Devices which have been developed at the JRC Ispra, such as unattended portable pressure measurement instruments are capable of registering and permanently recording relevant data pertinent to the process operations in a timely mode. For such applications to be successful in the improvement of near real time accountancy there becomes a need for interpreting the vast amounts of data collected, usually over a monthly period. Driven by their need to analyze large amounts of data a diagnostic software application package has been developed based on neutral network techniques. The package involves a learning process to be carried out, based on typical process operations applicable to a particular tank in that process. Routine operations particular process 'signatures' which can b rapidly interpreted and diagnosed. Anomalies in the registered data are flagged and identified for further inspector investigation. The initial work has been applied to our volume calibration and monitoring software based on real plant data. This application will be extended to import data from other monitoring software.
