Abstract
The management of mixed and low-level radioactive waste has become very dynamic due to the development of new treatment technologies and the improvement of existing technologies. Commercial opportunities are being identified for waste streams previously relegated to long-term storage. To take advantage of these opportunities, the generator needs more than qualitative information associated with the candidate waste streams. Quantitative characterization information and knowledge of the waste packaging configuration will ensure the expeditious use of new disposition opportunities. The information presented in this document is to support the development of an Inventory Management Plan (IMP). The goal of the IMP is to identify final disposal opportunities for mixed and low-level radioactive waste. Intermediate goals include obtaining quantitative waste characterization information and identi@ing which waste streams require processing prior to eventual disposition.
