Abstract
Oak Ridge has integrated a suite of rugged, low-cost sensors into systems for remotely monitoring physical and/or assigned attributes from stored nuclear materials. Three systems are the Continuous Automated Vault Inventory Systems (CAVIS), SmartShelfTM - An Automated Container Identification System , and the Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (OTDR)-Based Fiber Optic Seal System. Results and details from several months of system field testing will be described in this paper. Additional applications and future implementations, such as the remote monitoring demonstration for the International Atomic Energy Agency at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant, will also be discussed.
