Abstract
The physical protection system of nuclear facilities in korea is based on national security due to the specific situation of the Korean peninsula. The Atomic Energy Act, in reflection of the IAEA guideline INFCIRC/225/Rev.3 as well as the detailed Security Regulations of relevant authorities, are dually applied to the facilities. Recently the IAEA adopted INFCIRC/225/Rev.4 as a new international guideline, and the IAEA is planning to fortify the Conversion on Physical Protection of Nuclear Material (INFCIRC/274) by strengthening and specifying the unauthorized removal, illicit trafficking of nuclear material, and sabotage and terrorism of nuclear facilities. Along with this, Korea is preparing to improve the domestic physical protection system and to carry out cooperation with the united states in development of a physical protection system. It will establish the effective protection system in Korea as well as to ensure the international trustworthiness in the future.
