Abstract
The DOE Anomaly Response Team (DART) has been identified by the Office of Safeguards and Security (OSS) to work with DOE facilities and Operations Offices to quickly and accurately help to resolve safeguards and security emergencies and unusual occurrences such as, nuclear material losses, safeguards anomalies, and communicated threats. A DART seeks to quickly respond to a request for assistance, bring the best available expertise to the problem, ensure systematic and thorough investigations, provide for logical and welldocumented conclusions, apply experience gained with prior investigations, and provide an independent review team. The draft of a plan for DART implementation with an appendix containing specifics for a DART response for Material Control and Accountability has been provided to OSS. The first DART, called out in March 1993 to respond to a an identified inventory difference at the Y-12 Plant, will be described, and the experiences learned will be detailed.
